After having about 20 people ask me to explain bulletproof on the phone after hearing that I’m into it, I decided I would give you the lowdown here so you can try it for yourself!

I’m sure you’ve heard a ton about “bulletproof” lately, whether it be in regards to eating or simply that bulletproof coffee you’ve seen on social media or heard about from a friend. Either way, I’m here to give you the details, because it may be your new favorite lifestyle.

Why does Bulletproof interest me?

The underlying magic of bulletproof is to strengthen and reset your mitochondrial function, which are tiny organelles in your cells that are pretty much your cell battery chargers. The mitochondria charge the structured water, which in turn operates much like a battery as it produces ATP – the energy your body needs to function.

Tapping into your mitochondria and boosting their power enhances both weight loss and brain capacity. Why is this needed? Unfortunately, research suggests that half of people under the age of 40 years old have early onset mitochondrial dysfunction – and this appears to be at the heart of most illness and chronic disease.

Eating “bulletproof” takes your body to a whole new optimized level, starting at the cellular level.

Why did I feel the need to try Bulletproof?

Even with living the healthy lifestyle I live, I somehow found myself holding onto a ton of inflammation. It was showing up in my joints, making workouts painful and frustrating. It was showing up in my skin, making fine lines in my face appear and super deep acne present. It was showing up in my brain, upping anxiety and giving me horrible brain fog, resulting in pretty serious exhaustion. My digestion was also giving me issues, causing this crazy bloating anytime I ate ANYTHING. Headaches started making their way back into my days as well. Oh and by the way, I gained a little weight for seriously NO reason, which made me stress more.

Now, I didn’t even eat MUCH sugar, at times I’d go a little overboard on fruit but nothing seriously unhealthy and I really did eat pretty damn clean.

I’ll admit, stress was getting the best of me, which played a major role in all of my symptoms. In fact, being that everything starts from a vibration within you, I believe these symptoms stemmed from an emotional level. However, it was a bad cycle because the inflammation worsened the stress and then I would stress more, which would then worsen the inflammation.

Long story short, I was ready to try anything and needed to get to the bottom of it on a physical level so I could even begin to clear the stress on an emotional level.

I had been hearing about Bulletproof, but hadn’t researched much about it. So I decided to learn about this so called “biohacking” that Dave Asprey created.

After doing a ton of research, I began to understand the role mitochondria played in our cells, and felt very strongly that my mitochondria had weakened. So I decided to jump full in and give it a try.

How exactly did I start living Bulletproof?

Well, there are a few different ways you can do it. With the previous knowledge of intermittent fasting helping to reduce inflammation and improve digestion, I decided to do the Bulletproof intermittent fasting. I also included a tip from Dave Asprey and turned my shower to icy cold for 1 minute each morning at the end of my shower – which tells your mitochondria to TOUGHEN UP!!

How does the intermittent fasting work and what do you eat? (best for fat loss, focus and inflammation reduction)

So here’s the rundown – you fast for 18 hours and eat for 6 hours.

You start eating each day at 2:30PM and finish eating each day by 8:30PM. I know, how do you have the energy to work your a$$ off during the day without feeling lightheaded, getting a headache or getting hangry?

Well, in comes the bulletproof coffee. Although you are fasting until 2:30PM, you still drink the bulletproof coffee, which surprisingly loads your brain with energy and curbs any cravings, keeping you satisfied, productive and powerfully ready to take on the day.

This is not just a cup of coffee, though, because that would just leave you jittery and feeling all sorts of weird without food. This is coffee loaded with high quality fats that give your mitochondria POWER.

Using the Bulletproof brand coffee is recommended because they complete special testing to be sure there are no molds in the coffee beans, which is toxic and is common in other coffee. You can get this organically grown coffee here which is actually 10% off this month.

Then you add the Brain Octane which you can get here. This is 18 times stronger than coconut oil at delivering caprylic fatty acids to your brain. Caprylic fatty acids are responsible for cognitive energy, focus, concentration, and reduced “brain fog”. Hence why you’ll be so alert during your fasting hours.

Then you add either grass-fed butter or bulletproof ghee (1 tbsp.). However, I am allergic to cow milk so I cannot have any trace of it, therefore I use this raw coconut that I love OR bulletproof cacao butter, all three of these options make it creamy and delicious and get you the proper fat you need for the energy you need.

First you brew the coffee, then pour it into a blender or magic bullet with the Brain Octane and either the grass-fed butter, bulletproof gheeraw coconut that I love OR bulletproof cacao butter.

Blend for a minute and watch it become this caramel colored creamy & frothy deliciousness.

You can have 1-2 cups of this until 2:30PM, plus plenty of water. Then it’s time to break your fast and eat!

If you are being as strict as I am on this, you’re going to stick to the cleanest of veggies, protein and fat. Then at night for your last meal, you can have one starch, such as a sweet potato.

Organic Veggies (6-11 servings)

Best options – asparagus, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celery, fennel, olives, cucumber, cabbage, collards, kale, lettuce, radishes, spinach, summer squash, zucchini

Oil & Fats (5-9 servings)

Best options – bulletproof Brain Octane, bulletproof upgraded chocolatebulletproof cacao butter, avocado, grass-fed butter or ghee, pastured egg yolks, coconut oil, grass-fed red meat fat, sunflower lecithin, fish oil, coconut, organic raw cashews, almonds, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia, pecans walnuts, organic grass-fed full fat raw milk or yogurt

Protein (4-6 servings)

Best options – bulletproof whey protein, bulletproof upgraded collagen protein or collagen bites, grass-fed beef and lamb, grass-fed bison, pastured eggs, low-mercury wild fish such as salmon and trout, pastured pork, antibiotic free turkey

Starch (1 serving) or Fruit (1 serving)

Best options – avocado (technically can be your fat), pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potato, yam, carrot, white rice, cassava, taro, plantain, blackberries, coconut, cranberries, lemon, lime, raspberries, blueberries, pineapple, strawberries, tangerine, grapefruit, pomegranate

Spices, Flavorings, Sweeteners

Best options – apple cider vinegar, cilantro, coffee, ginger, parsley, sea salt/himalayan salt, lavender, rosemary, thyme, turmeric, oregano, cinnamon, prepared mustard NO additives, xylitol, erythritol, stevia, sorbitol, maltitol and other sugar alcohols, non-GMO dextrose, raw honey

Cooking Methods

Best options – raw or not cooked, lightly heated, steamed al dente, UV oven, convection baked or baked at 320 degrees F or below, simmered, boiled, poached, lightly grilled (not charred)

What a bulletproof day looks like for me…

Wake up: WATER

8-2:30PM: 1-2 cups of bulletproof coffee w/ tbsp. brain octane and tbsp. raw coconut

2:30PM: ground bison with zucchini, kale, turmeric, coconut oil

4PM: 1 organic egg with spinach, coconut oil

6PM: collagen bar

7:45PM: ground turkey with zucchini, kale, turmeric, coconut oil, spinach, arugula, oregano, yam

8:15PM: raw cacao nibs

8:30PM: fast restarts

Why I now LOVE this bulletproof lifestyle and why I’m sticking to it…

So let’s see, I’ve been on this for 3 weeks now, and here’s how I’m feeling: my energy is back, my sugar cravings are almost totally gone at an all-time low, my inflammation is majorly down, my joints are not hurting and inflamed anymore, my skin is almost totally clear, I’ve lost fat everywhere, my brain fog has cleared, my headaches hardly show up, my digestion is improved and I’m no longer getting bloated after I eat and looking like I’m 5 months pregnant, and most of all – I ENJOY IT.

It’s helping every single issue I had been fighting for the past 6 months, and after about 3 days of this, I started ENJOYING it. It’s easy after you do it for a few days, and the coffee is SO delicious you look forward to it and love it.
